PiPE’s mission is to partner with houseless, street-dependent, and marginalized survivors to reduce harm, provide opportunities to heal from trauma, fight systemic oppression and build lasting connections for our community. 

What We Provide

Advocacy is available for people who are unhoused or street-dependent in Thurston County who have experienced domestic violence, sexual violence, sex trafficking, identity based violence or hate crimes.  Through advocates, you can access emotional support or assistance to clarify issues, solve problems, identify barriers to safety, and develop safety checking and planning skills.

Some Things Advocates Can Help With:

  • Replacing lost/stolen records (state ID cards, birth certificates)

  • Connecting participants with local resources

  • Gender affirming supplies for transgender and non-binary participants

  • Filling out legal forms and documents (DV/SA protection orders, letters of insight, character statements etc.)

  • Accompaniment to appointments in social, legal and health facilities

  • Picking up prescriptions

  • Getting connected to therapy

  • Signing people up for food stamps

  • Getting healthcare and more!

Definitions:

What do we mean by domestic violence?
​
Domestic violence encompasses many behaviors that are controlling and dangerous. It may include the following:

Physically or sexually assaulted or threatened with violence by a 
partner (or ex-partner), family member (including street family), roommate
if recently housed.
 
What do we mean by sexual violence?
​
Sexual Violence is complex and can involve a lot of different behaviors and situations, this can look like:
​
  • Sexual touch without consent (if a person has said “no” or if they haven’t said “yes”). 
  • Can be through physical force or through guilt-tripping or threats that get a person to engage in a sexual act that they’re not wanting or not comfortable with.
  • This can include if a person is asleep or under the influence of drugs or alcohol in a way that the person is not conscious enough to consent.

What do we mean by sex trafficking?
​
When someone uses force, violence, lies, guilt-tripping, or threats (to the person or to their loved ones or property) to get a person to perform pornography, prostitution, and sexual acts with anyone in exchange for any item of value such as money, drugs, housing, shelter, food, clothes, life sustaining medication etc.

What do we mean by identity-based violence?
​
  • If you have been assaulted because of your gender. this can be because you are transgender or non-binary, or because your gender is perceived as being outside of gender norms
  • If you have been assaulted because you belong to a racial group that is marginalized (black, indigenous, or other person of color (BIPOC)
  • If you have been assaulted because you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or queer.

What do we mean by hate crime?
​
A hate crime (also known as an identity-based crime or bias crime) is a prejudice-motivated crime which occurs when a person targets someone because they belong to a certain social group or race.
